rEcess Takes Fort Worth: How One Volunteer Helped Grow the 99B Movement
At Watermark Fort Worth, respite is more than temporary relief or a restorative pause. It’s an investment in well-being, built on compassion, connection, and the belief that everyone deserves support.
Together with Madison Norris, Ginnie Holcomb brought rEcess to this church community in the fall of 2022. But for some time, God had been quietly preparing her, nurturing the relationships and passions that would guide her path. She first learned about 99 Balloons while volunteering at Hope Heals Camp that was founded by Katherine and Jay Wolf, who have long been connected with 99 Balloons and our founders, Matt and Ginny.
The following year, Ginnie moved to Texas and joined Watermark Fort Worth, where a camp friend introduced her to Madison, a former rEcess volunteer. With a shared desire to invest more deeply in local families experiencing disability, the women worked together to bring our flagship respite program to their community.
As it turned out, the church had recently launched a program, pairing children with disabilities with volunteers during Sunday services. After meeting with the team behind that initiative and presenting their idea to church leadership, their vision became a reality.
rEcess at Watermark Fort Worth now hosts 8 respite nights per year, serving 7 families (19 kids) with the support of 35 volunteers.
